1) Personal prefrences can be changed in your profile, including avatar (your personal picture) and skin (the colors you see the forum as currently there's firey, ice, or the current default, space).
2) To change your avatar;
In order to make sure your avatar will change to the new one, you must make sure the custom avatar and avatar size fields have been cleared, or else the old avatar will still display.
